Giving Opportunities

Why your gifts are so important

Madison Community Montessori School is made up of a community of individuals who support the school in many ways.  This commitment is a tradition at MCMS that enables the school to enhance existing programs and realize its mission.  The philanthropic tradition of giving to non-profit organizations is very much alive at MCMS.

Like all independent schools, MCMS depends on the generosity of current families, alumni and friends to accomplish its visionary goals as well as to keep tuition costs as low as possible.  The high standards we have come to expect at MCMS can only be maintained through the active support of its community.

To learn more about any of these fundraising activities, please contact Director of Development, Laura Spitzig.

Annual Fund

The Madison Community Montessori Annual Fund is the school's primary fundraising vehicle, which provides direct funding for the enhanced and unique education initiatives that tuition alone does not cover. MCMS deliberately sets tuition below full cost in order to keep the school more affordable to a wider range of students. This allows us to maintain a culturally and socioeconomically diverse community. It also provides an opportunity for parents to make tax-deductible donations, whereas tuition is not tax deductible.

Gifts to the Annual Fund are unrestricted and allow us to strive for excellence in a variety of capacities. Families are asked to make the Annual Fund a giving priority. If every family gives every year, we can continue to enrich every child.

Contributions to the Annual Fund touch every part of the school - from playground balls to new computers, from books to special Montessori materials for the classrooms, from parent education nights to professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff, from field trips to props for classroom performances.

Capital Campaign

In the fall of 2011, MCMS launched its first-ever capital campaign. Due to eminent domain by the Wisconsin DOT, MCMS was forced to leave the building that had been our home for over 20 years.  We were able to secure our new location in the Town of Middleton and opened the doors to our new home in the fall of 2012.  With this move came many expenses not covered or reimbursed by the state; hence the birth of our “Opening New Doors to Lifelong Learning” Capital Campaign. We are currently in our third year of our five-year campaign.

The funds raised during the early part of the campaign allowed us to continue with our plans for our new building. As of May 2014, we have raised $450,000 towards our goal of $500,000. The remaining balance of the campaign will help complete our outdoor environments, including our playground. We have the plans for a natural playground ready to go, however we need your support to be able to provide the children with this wonderful, natural, outdoor play space.

Matching Gifts

This is an opportunity to have your employer match your gift to MCMS.  Please check with your employer to determine if they offer this program.

MCMS Endowment

The MCMS Endowment was established in 2008 with donations made by friends and families of MCMS.  Guided by the mission of MCMS, the Endowment will support the following activities:

  • Financial aid
  • Capital funds or other major initiatives
  • Community outreach

The first fund of the MCMS Endowment, the Dorothy Zografi Scholarship Fund, was created by the MCMS Board of Directors in honor of long-time Head of School, Dorothy Zografi.  Donating to the MCMS Endowment will ensure that your donation continues in perpetuity to support MCMS.

Legacy

While most support comes in the form of check or in-kind gifts, many have become creative in their giving by using stocks and bonds.  Making a planned gift may be as simple as remembering MCMS in your will or naming the school as a beneficiary of an insurance policy.
